ITINERARY
Day 01: Guwahati – Shillong (100 kms, 2 hrs drive)

Meet and greet upon arrival by a Swan Tours representative at Guwahati Airport / Railway Station and transfer to Shillong.

Shillong : Shillong offers a serene atmosphere with its lovely lakes and pine forests. It is the capital city of Meghalya . It is the premium hill station of the North East region.

The sightseeing in Shillong includes :

Barapani (Umiam Lake) : It is the biggest artificial lake and the first hydro electric project in the north-east. Here you can also enjoy water sports like kayaking, river rafting, water cycling, scooting and boating. Nehru Park which is quite near to the lake will make you witness a number of species of orchids flowers and birds.

Ward’s Lake: Here you can enjoy boating in lotus-filled lake. Take a stroll along the lovely surroundings to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere like nowhere else. It will take your breath away and will give your senses a beautiful makeover like none other.

Botanical Garden: The pathways are beautifully laid and the ambiance is quite pleasant here. The garden also houses a number of rare species of birds and flowers which will delight your senses.

During the rest of the day, the visitors are free to leisure and to discover Bara Bazaar & Police Bazaar. Overnight: Stay in hotel

Day 02: Shillong – Cherrapunji – Shillong (60 kms one way, 1 & 1/2 hrs drive)

In the early morning after breakfast, take a full day excursion to Cherrapunji.

Cherrapunji: Commonly known as Sohra, this place is laced with cascading waterfalls which will take your breath away. You will also find rich tropical vegetation in an eco friendly atmosphere.

Nohkalikai Falls: This is the tallest waterfall in India and fourth longest in the world.

Mawsmai Cave: This is the only fully lighted cave of Meghalaya. Walking through the limestone walls of the caves is quite a unique experience.

Thangkharang Park: This Park houses some rare and exotic orchids along with unique species of plants.

Seven Sister Falls: This is the fourth highest waterfall in India. The other two names of the Seven Sister Fall are Nohsngithiang Falls and Mawsmai Falls.

In the late afternoon return to Shillong. Overnight: Stay in hotel.

Day 03: Shillong city tour

In the morning after breakfast, take a full day excursion of Shillong, visiting –

Shillong Peak: This is the highest point in the state and showcases a breathtaking view of the city.

Elephant Falls: When the first rays of sun falls on this waterfall, it creates a lovely view.

Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Culture: This centre offers vivid knowledge about different cultures of North East India.

Cathedral of Mary Help of Christian: It is the largest and most beautiful cathedral in Meghalaya.

Shillong Golf Course: This Golf course offers calm scenic beauty with enough space for evening walks and picnics.

Butterfly Museum: Renowned for its unique and exclusive collection of butterflies and moths, it is a great museum.

Evening: Free for shopping at Bara Bazaar & Police Bazaar. Overnight: Stay in hotel.

Day 04: Shillong – Guwahati (100 kms, 2 hrs drive)

In the morning after breakfast, take transfer to Guwahati Airport / Railway Station for your onward destination.

If time permits, visit the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati

Kamakhya Temple: Visit Kamkhya Temple, this is one of the supreme ‘Shaktipeeth’, the shakti shrine of Goddess Kamakhya is situated on the Nilachal Hills. It is the an ancient center of Tantric Shaktism. Let’s look at the famous legend which tells the story of the birth of the Kamakhya temple. Lord Shiva was quite angry when his wife Sati died. Shiva was struck with rage and anger on the death of Sati. He wandered the entire earth carrying Sati’s corpse. While in this an organ of Sati fell on the site of Kamakhya temple and it became a place of worship in sometime soon. Here at this temple you will find various stone inscriptions, terracotta works, sculptures and idols of Ganesha and Chamundeswari which are great to see and worth mentioning. Here every year in mid June the famous ‘Ambubachi Fair’ is celebrated with great keenness and eagerness in this temple and followers and devotees from different parts of India swarm into it for the out of the ordinary occasion.
